Azara lanceolata, commonly called lanceleaf azara, is known locally as corcolen or aromo. This species of flowering plant belongs to the family Salicaceae; it was previously classified in the family Flacourtiaceae. Its scientific name refers to its distinct lance-shaped leaves, which are serrated, glossy, and bright green. Azara lanceolata is an evergreen shrub that grows between 3 and 5 meters tall. The plant blooms in late winter or early spring, and its flowers are known for a strong scent that many people find similar to vanilla.
