About Autographa pulchrina (Haworth, 1809)
This moth species has a wingspan of 35–40 mm, and forewings measure 17–20 mm in length. The forewings are fuscous purplish, with darker dark suffusion than that seen in Autographa iota. The inner and outer lines are more or less marked with pale yellowish, and edged with dark brown; a brown fascia runs before the inner line. Below the middle of the median area, the color is ferruginous brown, with orange suffusion on the outer lower portion. The reniform stigma is partially outlined in pale golden, and it bears two golden spots matching the pattern seen in A. iota. The submarginal line is suffusedly edged with olive brown, except for the area above the anal angle. The hindwing matches the pattern of that of A. iota. In the aberration percontatrix Auriv., the two golden spots are confluent. The form gammoides Speyer, found in Baltic provinces, and North and Central Germany, is darker, with a stronger purplish tint on the forewings and united metallic spots. The taxon buraetica Stgr. is also a darker brownish grey form with a stronger golden tinge and conjoined spots, originating from the Kentei Mountains and Eastern Siberia; it is now treated as the separate species Autographa buraetica. The aberration pallida ab. nov. [Warren] from the Engadine has a whitish ground color on the wings. The caterpillars are green, with slightly wavy yellowish white lateral stripes, and a green head with a blackish border. The pupa is black.
