About Autographa flagellum Walker

Autographa flagellum, commonly known as the silver whip, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. Francis Walker first described this species in 1858. In North America, it ranges from Newfoundland west across southern Canada to south-eastern British Columbia; in eastern North America, it extends south to Maine, Michigan, and Wisconsin, with isolated records of the species from the more southern locations of Pennsylvania and Colorado. This moth has a wingspan of 35 to 40 mm. Adult silver whip moths are active on wing from June to August, with activity timing varying by location. The species produces one generation per year. The larvae of Autographa flagellum feed on species from the Liatris and Helianthus genera.
