The only known species in this genus is Austrothemis nigrescens, which is commonly called the swamp flat-tail. This species is also endemic to southern Australia, and it lives in lakes and swamps. It is a small dragonfly: males have a flattened abdomen marked with black and red, while females have black and yellow markings on their abdomen.
