About Austrolestes analis (Rambur, 1842)

This species has the scientific name Austrolestes analis (Rambur, 1842). Its abdomen measures 3 to 3.2 centimeters in length. Mature males of this species are most often pale blue and black, though the intensity of the blue coloration can vary between individuals. It can be distinguished from other species in the Austrolestes genus by the pattern on the upper surface of its thorax; this pattern most closely matches that of Austrolestes aridus. This species is distributed across south-western Western Australia, south-eastern South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and Tasmania. It is active from spring through autumn, found near lakes, slow-flowing rivers, and the adjacent vegetation in these areas.
