About Austroderia splendens (Connor) N.P.Barker & H.P.Linder

Austroderia splendens is a grass that forms tall tussocks reaching up to 6 meters (20 feet) in height. It can be told apart from other species in the Austroderia genus by several features: it has wider, more flexible leaves, and its leaf blade is densely hairy in the area above the ligule. This species is endemic to New Zealand. On the North Island, it occurs as far south as Waikawau and Ohiwa Harbour, and it also grows on offshore islands including Manawatāwhi / Three Kings Islands. It is found primarily in coastal habitats.
