Austrocylindropuntia cylindrica (Lam.) Backeb., synonym Opuntia cylindrica, is commonly known as the cane cactus. It is a species of flowering plant belonging to the cactus family, Cactaceae. This cactus is native to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. It has been introduced to the Canary Islands, Morocco, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. It is a popular ornamental plant, and it has become an invasive species in Europe, South Africa, and Australia. Due to an earlier misidentification, this species was incorrectly believed for a period to contain mescaline.
