Austroagrion watsoni, commonly called the eastern billabongfly, can be identified by distinct physical features that differ between males and females. Males have a bright blue thorax marked with black, and a long, slender black abdomen that features blue rings and a blue tip. Females are roughly the same size as males, and their body color ranges from pale blue to grayish-green. The antehumeral stripe of females is a contrasting bright green. This species is distributed across northern and eastern Australia, New Guinea, and the Pacific island of New Caledonia.
