Body Morphology

It physically resembles sticklebacks, but has a longer, thinner body, with between 24 and 27 small spines positioned in front of its dorsal fin.

Habitat Depth Range

The tubesnout, the common name for this species, lives in shallow marine waters along the Pacific coast of North America, at depths down to 30 m (98 ft).

Geographic Distribution

Its range extends from Prince William Sound in Alaska south to Rompiente, Baja California.

Habitat Types

It can be found living in rocky crevices, kelp beds, eelgrass areas, and locations with a sandy bottom substrate.
