This single species, Atypha pulmonaris, was originally described by Eugenius Johann Christoph Esper in 1790, and its scientific name is Atypha pulmonaris (Esper, 1790). Atypha pulmonaris can be found in southern and central Europe, northern Turkey, Transcaucasia, and the Caucasus.
