About Attulus saltator (O.Pickard-Cambridge, 1868)

Females of Attulus saltator reach a maximum body length of about 4 mm (3⁄16 in), while males are slightly smaller, at around 3 mm (1⁄8 in). The species' carapace is black with a lighter marking along its midline, and its abdomen is brownish with lighter markings. The fourth pair of legs is longer than that found in species belonging to the closely related genus Sitticus. Identification of this species relies on the precise structure of the female epigyne and the male palpal bulb. Attulus saltator is distributed from western Europe through to south-western Siberia. In England and Wales, it occurs mainly in sandy habitats such as sand dunes. Across the rest of northern Europe, it is widespread but uncommon.
