About Attulus floricola (C.L.Koch, 1837)
Attulus floricola is a species of jumping spider that belongs to the family Salticidae. It has a widespread distribution across the Holarctic region. This range covers Europe, the Caucasus, Russia extending from Europe to the Far East, Kazakhstan, Central Asia, China, Japan, Canada, and the United States.
Across the Holarctic region, A. floricola can be found in Europe from the British Isles and Scandinavia, south to the Mediterranean. Its range extends east through Russia all the way to the Far East, and also includes Kazakhstan and Central Asia. In Asia, the species is present in China and Japan. In North America, it occurs in both Canada and the United States.
The habitat of Attulus floricola includes bogs, marshes, fens, and meadows. The spiders live on the heads of plants such as Eriophorum vaginatum (cotton grass) or similar plants, and they will occasionally spin their cocoons on these plant heads. In Britain, individuals of this species can be found from March through September.
