About Attulus distinguendus (Simon, 1868)

Attulus distinguendus (Simon, 1868) is a species of jumping spider. It has four forward-facing eyes: two small eyes are positioned on the sides, and two large eyes sit in the middle. Like other jumping spiders, this species has good vision; among invertebrates, only cephalopods have better vision than jumping spiders. The spider's body is grey with brown dots. This species has a Palearctic distribution. In the United Kingdom, it is only found in two regions: North Kent and South Essex. It has also been recorded in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Romania, the Netherlands, Japan, the province of Shanxi (China), and South Yakutia (Russia). This spider prefers dry climates with sparse low vegetation. It can live in cement, stony clinker, and pulverised fuel ash. It forages in areas with high salt concentrations, where it can be found on halophytic plants such as Salicornia.
