About Atrytonopsis loammi (Whitney, 1876)

Atrytonopsis loammi, commonly known as the Loammi skipper or southern dusted skipper, is a species of butterfly in the family Hesperiidae. In the United States, it is found on barrier islands in North Carolina, and along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts from South Carolina to Florida and Mississippi. Some scientific authors classify this taxon as a subspecies of Atrytonopsis hianna. The population found in North Carolina has been described as a separate new species, Atrytonopsis quinteri; however, the original publication describing this new species does not address how it differs from Florida populations of A. loammi. The wingspan of Atrytonopsis loammi measures approximately 32 mm. Adult butterflies are active in two flights: from early April to mid-May, and again from mid-July to late August. The larvae of this butterfly feed on Schizachyrium littorale.
