About Atriplex coulteri (Moq.) D.Dietr.

Atriplex coulteri (Moq.) D.Dietr. is a saltbush species, commonly called Coulter's saltbush and Coulter's orache. It is native to coastal southern California and northern Baja California, where it is quite rare. It grows in areas with saline and alkaline soils, including ocean bluffs. This perennial herb produces leaning or erect reddish green stems and branches that are generally under 50 centimeters tall. Its gray, scaly leaves are oval-shaped and no longer than 2 centimeters. The plant bears separate male and female inflorescences, which form small hard clusters of flowers. Its brown seeds are less than 2 millimeters wide.
