About Atlapetes latinuchus (Du Bus de Gisignies, 1855)

The yellow-breasted brushfinch, with the scientific name Atlapetes latinuchus, is also commonly called the cloud-forest brushfinch. It is a bird species that belongs to the family Passerellidae. Some taxonomic treatments classify this bird as a subspecies of Atlapetes rufinucha. This species occurs in forest and woodland habitats in Andean highlands, ranging from northern Peru across Ecuador and Colombia to far western Venezuela. It is generally a common species, so BirdLife International currently assesses it as a species of least concern. A new subspecies, A. l. yariguierum, was first described in 2006 from the Serranía de los Yariguíes region of Colombia.
