About Athetis pallustris (Hübner, 1808)
This species is scientifically known as Athetis pallustris (Hübner, 1808), with synonyms including lutea Frr., luteola Frr., and exilis Ev., previously referred to as P. palustris Hbn. In males, the forewings are dull grey-brown with somewhat sparse scaling. The inner and outer lines are slightly darker and indistinct. The orbicular stigma appears as an elongated dark point, and the reniform stigma is a narrow dark lunule. The submarginal line is faint, preceded by a dark shade that is more prominent along the costa. The hindwings are a paler fuscous shade. The smaller female has much darker wings, coloured brownish fuscous. Several distinct forms are recognised: aboleta Guen. from Norway and Lapland is decidedly paler, with forewings that are more ochreous and have less distinct markings, and whiter hindwings; melanochroa Stgr. from Amurland is much darker fuscous in both sexes; sajana Hmps. is a greyer form. The larva is brownish with a whitish dorsal line and a black head. The wingspan of the adult moth ranges from 18 to 34 mm.
