About Astragalus zionis M.E.Jones

Astragalus zionis M.E.Jones produces purple flowers and has silvery foliage. Its pods are quite hairy, somewhat inflated, and ovate in shape; they are usually mottled and can grow up to one inch long. The native range of Astragalus zionis stretches from Zion National Park across southern Utah, through Glen Canyon, to San Juan County. It grows at altitudes between 970 and 2200 meters, and can be found on rocky slopes throughout Zion Canyon. The variety Astragalus zionis var. vigulus is classified as a Critically Imperiled Plant by the United States Forest Service and as a Critically Imperiled Variety by NatureServe, but it is not listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.
