Astragalus tricarinatus A.Gray is a perennial herb that grows in clumps reaching approximately 25 centimeters (9.8 inches) in height. Its leaves can grow up to 20 centimeters (7.9 inches) long, and are composed of multiple silvery-green, hairy leaflets. The inflorescence bears 5 to 15 cream-colored flowers, each around 2 centimeters (0.79 inches) long. The fruit is a flat legume pod that can reach up to about 4 centimeters (1.6 inches) in length. The pod is curved and marked by three distinct ribs.
