About Astragalus arizonicus A.Gray
Astragalus arizonicus A.Gray is a usually slender, diffuse perennial herb, though it is relatively short-lived. It may flower during its first growing season. It produces attractive pink and purple flowers in early spring. Later in the growing season, it loses its flowers and develops a more unkempt growth habit. It is most commonly encountered during the months of March, April, and May. Most populations of this species are found in the United States, with a smaller number of populations occurring in northern Mexico. This species holds a global conservation rank of G4, indicating it is not endangered; this rank has not been updated since 1991. It grows on stony hillsides, alluvial fans, washes, and canyon beds. It is quite common in the foothills of and throughout the upper Gila River Basin, and its range extends from the head of the Hassayampa River to the Salt and San Pedro Rivers.
