Their wingspan measures 1.5 to 2 inches, which equals 38 to 51 millimeters. This species is distributed in the southwestern United States—including the states of Arizona and Texas—and also occurs in Mexico. Adults of Asterocampa leilia most commonly feed on dung, tree sap, and rotten fruit. They only feed on nectar in very rare cases. Their typical habitats include canyons, streamsides, thorn scrubs, and washes. Males of this species wait close to the species' food plants for females to arrive.
