About Asterocampa idyja (Geyer, 1828)

This species, Asterocampa idyja, has brown wing uppersides in both males and females. Males have white spots near the tip of the forewing, along with yellow spots across the center of the wing. Male hindwings have six dark submarginal eyespots. Female spots are much darker and more diffuse than those of males. Female forewings are less hooked and significantly broader than male forewings. This species is distributed across Cuba, Guatemala, the Isle of Pines, and Mexico, and it rarely occurs on Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. Adult individuals of Asterocampa idyja are on the wing in October.
