Aster formosanus Hayata is a perennial herbaceous plant. It reaches a height of 30 to 80 cm. This species has long, slender rhizomes. Its stems are erect, simple, and sometimes branched in their upper section; they are finely striate, purplish, and glabrous. The leaves are dark green, cauline, and gradually reduce in size moving upward along the stem. The flowers are stellate, usually white with yellow centres, and bloom from May to December. The fruit produced by this plant is an achene.
