About Astelia argyrocoma A.Heller ex Skottsb.

Astelia argyrocoma is a grass-like shrub with silvery-green foliage. Its leaves measure 40–100 cm (16–39 in) in length and 0.4–1.1 cm (0.16–0.43 in) in width, and the undersides of the leaves are solid silver. This species produces green and reddish-brown flowers, which mature into bright orange berries. In terms of distribution and habitat, Astelia argyrocoma is found exclusively in high-elevation tropical montane cloud forests on the Hawaiian island of Kauaʻi. It grows at elevations between roughly 500 and 1,400 m (1,600 and 4,600 ft), and occurs most prominently on the Alakaʻi plateau. It does not grow at the very highest elevations of Kauaʻi.
