About Aspalathus cordata (L.) R.Dahlgren

Note: Campbell and Van Wyk (in S. African J. Bot. 67: 127, 2001) seem to treat the name Aspalathus cordata (L.) R.Dahlgren as a synonym of Rafnia triflora (L.) Thunb. (syn. Crotalaria triflora L.). They cite B. cordata as published in 1753 but give the page number as 994, which corresponds to the Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 994, 1762 account of this species. They quote "e Cap. b. spei", while both the first and second edition accounts give "Aethiopia". They state "LINN s. n. (LINN, microfiche, lecto., here designated)". Presumably, they refer to 890.6 (LINN) annotated "Borbonia 3 cordata" by Linnaeus. However, they don't indicate different uses of the names from the first and second editions, nor do they reject Dahlgren's choice of type.
