About Asota ficus Fabricius, 1775
Asota ficus has a wingspan of approximately 67 mm. In males, the antennae are long and fasciculated. The third segment of the palpi is long, grey, and tipped with black. The base of the tegula is yellow and marked with a single black spot. The dorsal spot on the abdomen is often almost completely faded. The forewings have a yellow basal patch that extends along the costa and through the cell to two-thirds the length of the cell; this patch includes an orange spot outlined in black on the costa, as well as streaks in the cell and on the inner margin. Two black spots are located on the costa, two inside the cell, one on the inner margin, and two lines cross the interno-median interspace. The remaining area of the forewing is pale reddish brown, with veins streaked in yellow. The hindwings are bright orange-yellow. A black spot is present at the end of the cell, with an irregular series of black spots along the submargin. The larva has a black head. Its body somites are dark velvety brown, with fine white hairs growing from red papillae. Yellow patches occur on the fourth through eleventh somites.
