About Askellia pygmaea (Ledeb.) Sennikov
Askellia pygmaea is a perennial plant that grows up to 20 cm (8 inches) tall. It has a deep taproot and spreads via underground rhizomes, forming dense clumps. Its stems may be erect or trailing along the ground. A single plant can produce more than 80 small flower heads; each flower head holds 9 to 12 yellow ray florets and has no disc florets. This species is native to western, northern, and eastern Canada (including Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, Nunavut, Quebec, Labrador, and Newfoundland), the western United States (including Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and California), Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and western China (Tibet and Xinjiang).
