About Arugisa lutea Smith, 1900

Arugisa lutea, the common arugisa moth, is a moth species in the family Erebidae. It was first described by John B. Smith in 1900. It occurs in the United States, with confirmed records ranging from Maryland and Virginia to Florida, extending west to Texas and Missouri. Its wingspan is approximately 17 mm. Most adults are active on wing from May to October, though in Florida they have been recorded on wing nearly year-round. The larvae feed on both living and dead grasses, and have also been recorded feeding on blue-green algae.
