About Artocarpus elasticus Reinw. ex Blume
Artocarpus elasticus Reinw. ex Blume is a species of tree in the mulberry family, Moraceae. It is commonly called terap nasi or terap, and grows as a rainforest tree native to maritime and mainland Southeast Asia. Mature trees reach up to 45 metres (150 ft) in height, and may occasionally grow as tall as 65 meters (214 feet). Their diameter at breast height is typically around 1 metre (3 ft). Juvenile trees are notable for producing a rosette of very large, deeply lobed leaves. These leaves match the shape of leaves from the white oak (Quercus alba), and can grow up to 2 metres (6 ft) long and approximately 1.2 metres (4 ft) wide. The tree's stipules can reach up to 20 centimeters (eight inches) long, making them among the largest known stipules. New leaves grow from leaf buds that are as long as 18 centimetres (7 in). This species is dioecious, meaning male and female flowers grow on separate individual trees. It produces fruit that resembles a small breadfruit. Male capitulae release large amounts of pollen, and pollination is thought to occur via wind.
