About Arrhenia epichysium (Pers.) Redhead, Lutzoni, Moncalvo & Vilgalys
Arrhenia epichysium (Pers.) Redhead, Lutzoni, Moncalvo & Vilgalys is an agaric fungus species that belongs to the family Hygrophoraceae. Its fruit bodies have small caps that range in color from brown to dark gray, with a diameter of 1โ3 cm (1โ2โ1+1โ4 in). When the cap is dry, its color changes to light gray to tan. The gills are narrow, thin, and closely spaced, and they attach decurrently to the stipe. The stipe can grow up to 5 cm (2 in) long. The flesh of the fungus is grayish and watery in texture. Its spores are smooth, ellipsoid, and measure 6โ7.5 ฮผm. The spore print of Arrhenia epichysium is white. Outside of its own genus, it can look similar to the slightly larger species Pseudoclitocybe cyathiformis. This fungus grows on dead wood, and can be found in North America excluding the Gulf Coast; on the West Coast, it can be found through the month of May.
