About Aromia moschata (Linnaeus, 1758)

This species of beetle, Aromia moschata, shares the characteristic of long antennae with all other cerambycids, and has a distinctively coppery or greenish metallic tint. The typical form of this beetle, which has a metallic-colored pronotum, is widespread across Europe, with the exception of most of Spain and Southern Italy. In these excluded Spanish and Southern Italian regions, North and East Africa, and across Asia as far east as Japan, the species is represented by several subspecies, which have pronota that are more or less red. For the main species, male beetles have antennae longer than the combined length of their entire head and body, while female beetles have antennae that are as long as their body. Oriental subspecies of Aromia moschata usually have shorter antennae than the typical form. The musk beetle can be found locally in Great Britain, for example at Caldicot and Wentloog Levels, which is also known as Gwent Levels SSSI.
