About Ariamnes cylindrogaster Simon, 1889
Like many other species in the genus Ariamnes, Ariamnes cylindrogaster has an extremely elongated abdomen that resembles a twig or pine needle. Females reach a body length of approximately 30 mm, while males are slightly smaller at around 25 mm; aside from the size difference, males and females look similar. The species' body color ranges from green to brown, and its abdomen can be bent upwards. Ariamnes cylindrogaster is a spider-eating predator that builds a simple web between trees. A study of this species in Japan found that almost 96% of its prey were spiders, belonging to 24 species across 11 families. This species produces an elongated egg sac. Ariamnes cylindrogaster is distributed in Laos, China (including Hong Kong), Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, and it typically inhabits forest environments.
