About Arhopala anthelus (Westwood)

Scientific name: Arhopala anthelus (Westwood)

Description of the male: Upperside: Both wings are brilliant, shining violet-blue. The primary wings have a black linear costa and posterior margin. Secondary wings have a somewhat broad brown costa, a linear black posterior margin, and a very pale grey abdominal fold. The tail is black with a white tip. Underside: Both wings are pale greyish brown, with dark spots broadly edged with whitish. Primary wings have three large spots that increase in size; two or three somewhat confluent spots run up to the costal nervure, touching the second of these three spots.

For the female: Upperside: Both wings are violet. The primary wings have very broad brown costal and posterior margins, while the secondary wings have less broad borders. Underside matches that of the male.
