About Arhopala aedias (Hewitson, 1862)

Arhopala aedias, commonly known as the large metallic oakblue, is a species of lycaenid butterfly first described by William Chapman Hewitson in 1862. This butterfly is found across Southeast Asia, with recorded populations in Burma, Thailand, Peninsular Malaya, Sumatra, Bangka, Nias, Borneo, and the Philippines. Male individuals of this species have a prominently lustrous light blue upper wing surface that carries a faint violet reflection. The species can be easily recognized by the markings on its under wing surface: the postmedian band of the forewing is split into two oblique, nearly parallel half-bands. On the hindwing, the corresponding postmedian band is not interrupted, but has very irregular edges. Arhopala aedias butterflies have long tails.
