About Argyrotaenia ljungiana (Thunberg, 1797)
Argyrotaenia ljungiana (Thunberg, 1797) is a moth species that belongs to the family Tortricidae. This species can be found in Europe. The wingspan of adult Argyrotaenia ljungiana ranges from 12 to 16 mm, and the thorax bears two hair-tufts. The species shows considerable variation in coloration. The base silver-white ground color may be suffused with grey, while typically red-brown markings can become almost black. The forewings usually feature three lighter cross-bands; the innermost of these cross-bands sometimes has a square brown spot along its inner edge. The hindwings are grey-brown, and the inner section of the wing fringe is bright, creating a narrow light strip along the outer edge of the wing. Julius von Kennel has published a full formal description of this species. The moth has two generations per year, and adults fly between April and August. The larvae feed on Ericaceae, Myrica gale, and Vaccinium, and have also been observed feeding on grapes and apples.
