About Argyrodendron actinophyllum (F.Muell.) Edlin
Argyrodendron actinophyllum, commonly known as black booyong, is a tree that typically grows to a height of 50 m (160 ft). It has prominent buttress roots and dark grey to very dark grey bark. Its leaves are palmately compound, bearing 5 to 9 lance-shaped leaflets that sometimes have their narrower end oriented toward the base. The leaflets measure 100โ180 mm (3.9โ7.1 in) long and 15โ50 mm (0.59โ1.97 in) wide, attached to a petiole 30โ50 mm (1.2โ2.0 in) long. The tree's flowers are arranged in many-flowered panicles that are longer than its leaves. The fruit is an oval samara 5โ7 mm (0.20โ0.28 in) in diameter, with a wing 40โ60 mm (1.6โ2.4 in) long and 15โ25 mm (0.59โ0.98 in) wide. Black booyong grows in warm rainforest, mostly at elevations above 600 m (2,000 ft). Its range extends north from Gloucester in New South Wales, and also includes north-eastern and central-eastern Queensland.
