About Argiope versicolor (Doleschall, 1859)

Argiope versicolor, the multi-colored argiope spider, is a colorful spider species. Females of this species have a cephalothorax covered in silvery hair. Their abdomen is pentagonal in shape; dorsally, the abdomen is marked with white, yellow, red, and dark bands, with the dark bands dotted with white, and ventrally it bears two longitudinal yellow stripes. A female's legs are orange with dark bands. Females usually sit head-down in the center of their webs, holding their legs spread out in the shape of an 'X'. Males of Argiope versicolor are smaller and less colorful than females, and are colored brown and cream.
