About Argiope mascordi Levi, 1983
Argiope mascordi (Levi, 1983) is a species of orb-web spider native to Queensland, Australia. Compared to most other species in the genus Argiope, females of this species are smaller and less colorful, while males are larger than males of many other Argiope species. This species has a notable pattern to the decorations it adds to its web: juvenile A. mascordi build cross-shaped web decorations, while adult individuals build disc-shaped decorations. This apparent reversal of web decorating behavior between life stages has no confirmed explanation to date.
