About Arctostaphylos tomentosa (Pursh) Lindl.

Arctostaphylos tomentosa (Pursh) Lindl. is a low-lying, spreading manzanita that is typically much wider than it is tall. This is a variable species, and even its individual subspecies can vary in appearance from plant to plant. Its stems may be red, gray, or a combination of the two colors, with bark that can be smooth, rough, or shreddy. Stems can range from hairless to quite bristly. Its leaves may be oval to lance-shaped, and sometimes have toothed edges. Generally, the upper leaf surface is darker and shinier than the lower surface. Its flowers range from white to pink, and may be hairy or hairless on the inside. The fruits are fuzzy reddish drupes, measuring less than one centimeter in diameter.
