About Arctostaphylos pumila Nutt.

Arctostaphylos pumila Nutt. is a small, low-growing manzanita that forms flat bushes and patchy creeping mats when growing in sandy soil. Its reddish bark does not typically shred. It has small, mostly oval-shaped leaves that are dark green on the upper surface, and grayish and fuzzy underneath. Its flowers grow in sparse inflorescences, and range in color from white to very pale pink. The fruit is a round brownish drupe approximately half a centimeter wide. This shrub species is endemic to California, where it grows on the coastline near Monterey and Monterey Bay.
