About Arctostaphylos otayensis Wiesl. & B.Schreib.
Arctostaphylos otayensis is an erect or mound-forming shrub that reaches 1โ3 meters (3.3โ9.8 feet) in height. This species does not form a basal burl. Its twigs are sparsely covered with a mix of short hairs and long glandular hairs. Leaves grow erect on petioles that measure 5โ8 mm (0.20โ0.31 in) long. The leaf base at the petiole attachment is rounded or truncate in shape. The foliage is gray-glaucous, and leaf shapes range from narrowly elliptic or oblong-elliptic to ovate. Individual leaves measure 2โ3 cm (0.79โ1.18 in) long and 1โ2 cm (0.39โ0.79 in) wide. Its inflorescence is a panicle with 4 to 7 branches. Young inflorescence branches grow in an erect or ascending orientation, and are covered in the same type of hairs found on the species' twigs. The inflorescence is lined with leaflike bracts. Flowers are borne on pedicels 3โ8 mm (0.12โ0.31 in) long. The flowers are white and shaped from conic to urceolate, with an ovary that is densely covered in white hairs. Fruits are globose, 6โ8 mm (0.24โ0.31 in) in diameter, and mostly lack surface hairs.
