About Arctostaphylos mewukka Merriam

Arctostaphylos mewukka Merriam is a mostly hairless shrub that reaches heights between 1 and 4 meters, and it may or may not have a burl at its base. Its leaves vary in shape, ranging from nearly round to widely lance-shaped, and can grow up to 7 centimeters long; leaf texture is dull, smooth, and sometimes waxy. The inflorescence is a loose cluster of the characteristic urn-shaped flowers of manzanitas. The fruit is a dark reddish-brown spherical drupe that can be up to 1.6 centimeters wide. This species is endemic to the Sierra Nevada of California, where it grows in mountain chaparral within the temperate coniferous forests of the range.
