About Arctostaphylos canescens Eastw.

Arctostaphylos canescens Eastw. is a shrub that ranges in shape from short and matted to spreading, and can grow up to 2 meters (6.6 ft) tall. Its smaller branches and twigs have a hairy to woolly texture. The leaves have smooth edges, are oval-shaped with pointed tips, and range from woolly to rough and waxy; they can reach up to 5 centimeters in length. This plant produces dense flower clusters of whitish, urn-shaped manzanita flowers that are woolly on the inside. After blooming, it develops a hairy drupe fruit that is 0.5 to 1 centimeter wide. Arctostaphylos canescens is native to the coastal mountain ranges of southwestern Oregon and northern California, where it grows in forest and chaparral plant communities.
