About Aposeris foetida (L.) Less.

Aposeris is a genus of flowering plants that belongs to the family Asteraceae. Only one species in this genus is known: Aposeris foetida, which is widespread across much of Europe. The genus name Aposeris was first published by Necker in 1790, but all names included in that publication have been declared rejected. As a result, Cassini's 1827 usage of the name is considered to be the validation of the genus name Aposeris. However, Cassini did not validly republish Necker's species name, so Lessing is credited with the formal recombination of Aposeris foetida.
