About Aplocera praeformata (Hübner)
Aplocera praeformata (Hübner) has a wingspan of 34–44 mm. Its forewings have a base color ranging from gray to blue-gray, with multiple dark transverse bands. A red-brown stain extends from the forewing toward the wing tip. The hindwings are solid gray-white and have no markings. This species is quite similar in appearance to Aplocera plagiata. In terms of distribution and habitat, Aplocera praeformata occurs from the Iberian Peninsula and France, across Western Europe and Central Europe, and extending to Russia. Its northernmost range reaches southern Finland and the Baltic States. The subspecies Aplocera praeformata urbahni occurs in Greece. In the Alps, this species can be found at elevations up to 2,000 meters.
