About Aphonopelma eutylenum Chamberlin, 1940

This species is commonly known as the California ebony tarantula. Its body occurs in various brown tones, ranging from light beige to dark brown and ebony. Adult females can reach a legspan of up to 13 cm (5 inches) and live approximately 25 years. Males reach maturity between 8 and 12 years of age, then leave their burrows to search for a mate. After expending all their energy searching for a suitable partner, males die of exhaustion roughly 6 months after reaching adulthood.
