About Aphanostephus skirrhobasis (DC.) Trel. ex Coville & Branner

Aphanostephus skirrhobasis, commonly known as Arkansas lazydaisy, is a North American flowering plant species belonging to the family Asteraceae. It is primarily native to the southern Great Plains of the United States, where it occurs in Texas, Oklahoma, eastern New Mexico, southern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, western Arkansas, and western Louisiana. Additional populations of the species have been found in Florida and in Tamaulipas, a Mexican state. This annual plant grows up to 45 cm (18 inches) tall. Three varieties of Aphanostephus skirrhobasis are recognized: Aphanostephus skirrhobasis var. kidderi (S.F.Blake) B.L.Turner, which grows in sandy and gravelly soils in Texas and Tamaulipas; Aphanostephus skirrhobasis var. skirrhobasis, which is found across most of the species' entire range, excluding Florida and Tamaulipas; and Aphanostephus skirrhobasis var. thalassius Shinners, which grows on coastal sand dunes in Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and Tamaulipas.
