This tree species has the scientific name Aphanamixis polystachya (Wall.) R.Parker. Its Bengali name is royna (রয়না), and it is also known as pithraj (পিথরাজ). Mature trees reach 20 meters in height. Its leaves are alternate, compound, and imparipinnate; individual leaflets are oblong-lanceolate with an acuminate apex, asymmetric base, and an entire margin. Its flowers are polygamous, arranged in panicle inflorescences. The fruit is a pale reddish, subglobose capsule that holds a single seed. The oil produced by this tree is not edible, but it can be used to make biodiesel and for lighting. Its very fine-textured wood is used for construction and ship-building.
