About Apamea sublustris (Esper)

Scientific name: Apamea sublustris (Esper). The wingspan of this species is 42–48 mm. It differs from the very similar Apamea lithoxylaea in a number of features. Its forewing is shorter, and more strongly suffused with brown or brownish grey, especially along the costa; in A. lithoxylaea, the costa is whitish. Its stigmata are much plainer. Its outer line is more continuously lunulate-dentate. The median shade at its lower extremity extends from the inner to the outer line. Its terminal brown shades are more distinct. There is no brown clouding on the submedian fold before the submarginal line, which is present in A. lithoxylaea. Its hindwing has better-defined markings.
