About Anthia sexmaculata (Fabricius, 1787)
Anthia sexmaculata can reach a length of 40 millimetres (1.6 in). Its body is black with whitish markings. The species is named sexmaculata (Latin for six-spotted) for the six markings that give it its scientific name, but it actually has around 14 pale markings on its body, and this number can vary. This species originated in India, and is widely distributed across the northern states of Africa (including Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia) and Syria, ranging from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea. It is typically found in desert regions.
